Eileen Arandiga, Festival Director, Worldwide Short Film Festival

Eileen Arandiga is the Festival Director of the Worldwide Short Film Festival in Toronto, a festival she has been associated with for over five years in various capacities. Eileen has previously worked for the Toronto International Film Festival – Industry Programming and Services, and various arts organizations in Australia. She has also run filmmaking workshops for young women in Toronto, has sat on festival juries and has programmed shorts for Signals Festival in the UK and the Australian Canadian Film Festival in Sydney, Australia. Eileen holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Australia.

Christopher Barry, SVP, Digital Media & Business Strategy, Sundance Channel

Christopher Barry is currently Senior Vice President, Digital Media and Business Strategy for the Sundance Channel. Christopher’s responsibilities include overseeing the Channel’s website, including content strategy, creative design and third-party partnerships, and extending the Channel’s content to mobile and electronic sell-through platforms. Christopher recently led the Channel’s digital activity on YouTube, Yahoo, iTunes and Second Life. Prior to joining the Sundance Channel in 2003, Christopher was a Vice President in Morgan Stanley’s Investment Banking division (Media and Communications Corporate Finance Group).

Ian Birnie, LACMA

Ian Birnie is the Director of the Film Department of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Previous positions include Director of Distribution for Janus Films in New York, and Director of Script Development for Telefilm Canada in Toronto.

From 1998 to 2006, Birnie worked on special projects for the Hamburg-based European Film Promotion. He is also an experienced film festival programmer, having worked for the Toronto Film Festival (Gala film programmer, 1992-96), the Palm Springs International Film Festival (2002-03), and the Bangkok International Film Festival (2004-06). He has served on the jury at the Hamptons, the Berlin and the Abu Dhabi festivals, and will be on the feature jury at the Cinema tous ecrans Festival in Geneva this coming November.

In 2003, the French government named him a ‘Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.’

Myro Fal, Senior Programmer, Digital Content, TELUS

Myro Fal is the Senior Programmer for the TELUS Digital Content team focusing on mobile content distribution since joining the company in 2006.  His portfolio includes development and execution of the video-on-demand strategy, partner-relations, selection and approval of content & promotion of entertainment-related programming on mobile phones.  A graduate of Ryerson University’s Radio & Television Arts program, his previous experience comes from working in film & television production industry for some of Canada’s largest entertainment producers and broadcasters, including Barna-Alper Productions, Alliance Atlantis and YTV.

Jonathan Ford, Executive Vice-President, Digital Acquisitions and Distribution, Fireworks International

Jonathan Ford is responsible for licensing all of Fireworks International and ContentFilm International’s new and library properties to digital media channels worldwide, including on-demand, broadband and mobile platforms. He also acquires and manages the company?s ever-growing catalogue of original digital content for the global multi-platform marketplace.

Prior to Fireworks International, Ford served as director, digital initiatives, for Sony Pictures Television International and previously at BT, Freeserve and the Kingfisher Group.

Cynthia Kane, Programming Manager, ITVS and ITVS International

In January 2007, Kane moved cross-continent to work as Programming Manager for ITVS International overseeing the initiative and the International Call for funding. ITVS International promotes an international exchange of documentary films made by independent producers, bringing international voices to U.S. audiences and stories from the U.S. to audiences abroad. ITVS International has co-produced 107 international documentaries since its inception in 2005, including the multi-award winning Waltz With Bashir, The English Surgeon and Last Train Home. Prior she’s had many incarnations from actor to writer to producer. She co-created DOCday on Sundance Channel during her 10-year tenure there.

Damon Smith, Head of Programming for Film and Animation, Babelgum, USA

Damon Smith is currently Head of Programming for Film and Animation at Babelgum Networks. In addition, he is also a producer at Reverse Shot Video, a biweekly columnist at Filmmaker Magazine, and the editor of Michael Winterbottom: Interviews (University Press of Mississippi, 2010). Prior to joining Babelgum, Smith was Editor-in-Chief of the indie-film Web portal FilmCatcher, where he co-produced 200+ video interviews with acclaimed international directors at major film festivals. Still active as a critic and journalist, he has written for Time Out New York, The Boston Globe, Cinema Scope, and many other publications.
