When will you begin accepting submissions for the SHORTSNONSTOP festival?: Right now. SHORTSNONSTOP officially launched on June 13, 2007. You can submit anytime during the year – but pay attention to our five deadlines if you wish to be considered for a juried prize. Competition deadlines are: August 5, 2007; October 5, 2007; December 5, 2007; February 5, 2008; April 5, 2008; June 5, 2008.
What is due to SHORTSNONSTOP by the deadline?: You must have completed your online application form and uploaded your film directly at www.shortsnonstop.com. You must check off all the required fields in order to successfully complete your submission. You will know that your film has been submitted successfully when you see it posted on our website. It takes five business days between the time you upload and the time we review your submission for copyright clearances and acceptability. Please do not contact us with questions or queries until five business days have passed.
What about TELUS and the mobile rights to my film?: By submitting your film to SHORTSNONSTOP, you must agree to grant your Canadian mobile rights to TELUS on an exclusive basis for a period of 1 year. We also offer you the option of licensing your worldwide mobile and digital rights to iThentic on a non-exclusive basis for 6 months.
What’s iThentic?: iThentic is an online and mobile video company. We’re hosting and managing the web platform and wireless delivery to Telus on behalf of SHORTSNONSTOP. You can learn more about us at www.ithentic.com.
Why does my film have to be available for mobile distribution in Canada?: Telus, the Presenting Sponsor of SHORTSNONSTOP, is awarding the Top 10 films selected from each period distribution and promotion across its mobile networks in Canada. Therefore, in order to be eligible to submit, all films must be available for distribution in Canada. Telus will hold these rights in Canada on an exclusive basis for one year.
Will I be paid for Canadian distribution?: Yes. Your film will be encoded and delivered to Telus by iThentic and you will receive the same terms & conditions that apply to all films distributed by iThentic. That is, you will be paid a 25% royalty on whatever amounts iThentic is paid by Telus. Please read the iThentic Content License Agreement carefully so you understand how this works.
What happens if my film is not one of the Top 10?: If your film is not selected as one of the Top 10, then you retain all your rights. You are free to submit your film to iThentic for worldwide broadcast, mobile and digital distribution on a non-exclusive basis for a 6-month license term. Again, please read iThentic's Content License Agreement and Terms & Conditions so you understand the nature of this relationship.
What kind of submissions is SHORTSNONSTOP looking for?: English language or No Dialogue projects from anywhere in the world. This online festival is designed to showcase all kinds of work, from music videos to documentary shorts to flash animation. Anything that fits our running time criteria (no longer than three minutes) will be considered for inclusion.
What if my short piece is slightly longer than three minutes?: Unfortunately, we cannot exceed the three minute time limit. If we receive a work longer than three minutes, we will only review and evaluate the first three minutes and nothing more. You can however re-edit your film to fit our running time criteria and we will be happy to consider it.
What if my short piece was submitted to another festival in 2006/ 2007?: We love premieres – but we will accept your film if it has already screened in other festivals. But, please make sure you understand that you must have mobile rights in Canada available to enter. See What about Telus and the mobile rights to my film?
Does it matter if my short piece has played elsewhere?: No, but if the piece is currently available to view on the Internet, then we would like for you to tell us where it is for our records.
What kind of awards will there be?: Six cash awards of $1000 (in Canadian dollars) each.
How many finalists will there be?: There will be 10 finalists per prize period. That’s 50 finalists per year.
What are the categories?: There are none, all films three minutes and under are eligible.
What if I want to submit my short piece to the 2008 CFC Worldwide Short Film Festival?: The CFC Worldwide Short Film Festival is our parent, but an entirely different festival. So, that means that you will need to submit your work to both festivals separately for consideration. Different guidelines, eligibility criteria and rules apply.
